COBRA KAYAKS™ SPONSORS SAN DIEGO BAY2BAY PADDLING EVENT

Gardena, CA - April 13, 2002 - Sponsored by Cobra Kayaks, the 19th annual San Diego Bay2Bay International Rowing & Paddling Regatta consumer event will be held on June 1, 2002. Open to any type of human powered watercraft, over five hundred participants and over a thousand spectators are expected to take part. The event is the main annual fundraiser for the San Diego Peninsula Family YMCA.
The regatta, including the choice of a five or a twenty-mile course, is being hosted by the San Diego Sailing Center (retailer, rental operator and paddling school). The twenty-mile race will begin at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center on Santa Clara Point while five-mile participants will launch their watercraft at Sandy Beach on Shelter Island in San Diego Bay. Competitors in both disciplines will end up on the Coronado Tidelands Park Beach Landing to a cheering audience and Hawaiian hula dancers. Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category will be handed out. The San Diego Bay2Bay is an excellent example of cooperation between a community program, retailer, and supplier working together to promote and benefit a worthwhile cause.
On-shore activities will include entertainment with a live band, burgers, awards presentation, prizes, and a silent auction. Popular with all ages and levels of experience, the Bay2Bay is an excellent venue for beginners to try kayaking, aficionados to try their hand at competition, and everyone else to just have fun.
