COBRA KAYAKSTM SPONSORS SAN DIEGO BAY2BAY PADDLING EVENT
New Location and Record Numbers Highlight a Fun Filled Day.

Gardena, CA, June 7, 2001 - Sponsored by Cobra Kayaks, the 18th annual San Diego Bay2Bay consumer promotion was held on June 3. Open to any type of human powered watercraft, nearly five hundred participants (a majority in Cobra Kayaks) and close to a thousand spectators took part. The event is the main annual fundraiser for the San Diego Peninsula Family YMCA..
The rowing and paddling regatta, including the choice of a five or a twenty mile course, was hosted by the San Diego Sailing Center (retailer, rental operator and paddling school). The twenty mile race kicked off at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center on Santa Clara Point while five mile participants launched their watercraft at the Sandy Beach on Shelter Island in San Diego Bay. Competitors in both disciplines ended up at a new location on the Coronado Tidelands Park Beach Landing to the applause of an historically enthusiastic audience. The San Diego Bay2Bay is an excellent example of cooperation between a community program, retailer and supplier working together to promote and benefit a worthwhile cause.
On shore activities included music, burgers, awards presentation, Hawaiian hula dancers, prizes and a silent auction. Popular with all ages and levels of experience, the Bay2Bay is an excellent venue for beginners to try kayaking; aficionados to try their hand at competition and everyone else to just have fun.
